Treatment With Dysport – Is It For You?

With the introduction of Dysport, plastic surgery patients seeking to eliminate facial wrinkles, forehead lines and crow's feet now have more options to choose from. Recently FDA approved, Dysport injection is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to Botox, especially for individuals looking for quicker, longer lasting results.

Dysport has been used outside of the United States to treat a number of neurological disorders for more than 15 years. In addition to cosmetic purposes, the FDA has also approved Dysport to treat abnormal head positioning and neck pain associated with a medical condition known as cervical dystonia.

Dysport utilizes the same neurological toxin as Botox, to disrupt facial muscle contractions that over time lead to wrinkles and facial lines. In particular, research has shown that Dysport is most effective when used to treat lines and furrows between the eyebrows. Dysport is administered via a strategically placed injection to target certain facial muscles and produce the best possible results based on each patient's aesthetic needs.

Most patients, who have undergone Dysport injections with a top plastic surgeon, have experienced remarkable results within a few days following the procedure. In addition, research has shown that when administered properly, Dysport suppresses muscle activity for up to a year.

Dysport recovery time is minimal and patients are free to resume their daily lives shortly after receiving the injection. The most common side effects associated with Dysport, include headaches, skin irritation, bruising and/or mild to moderate discomfort at the injection sites. To minimize the risk of side effects, patients are advised to seek treatment from a board-certified plastic surgeon who holds advanced training in administering anti-aging products.

Dysport and similar anti-aging products, such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse and laser skin resurfacing are most effective when used in conjunction with additional cosmetic surgery procedures, including rhinoplasty, brow lift, eyelid surgery, facelift, facial implants and similar surgical procedures.
